Cedarponics: Fresh Food, Right Where It's Needed
Food insecurity is a real and growing challenge in rural Nebraska. In Saunders County alone, thousands of residents face a food budget shortfall each year, and nearly half of Nebraska's schoolchildren qualify for free or reduced-price school lunch. Rural communities like ours are often left out of the conversation — but we believe that shouldn't be the case.
Cedarponics is designed to serve two audiences at once:
• Local families in need, through Sheep's Gate's existing pantry programs
• Local schoolchildren, by supplying fresh, ready-to-serve vegetables that fit school nutrition requirements — especially during winter months when fresh produce is hardest to find
We're proud to be exploring a partnership with Cedar Bluffs Public Schools to bring tower-grown produce directly into their cafeteria, with hopes of extending that relationship to neighboring districts over time.
